Grooming is all about the time and effort you put into cleaning your horse.
Every brush under this category should be in your grooming box.
Hoof pick
First start your grooming by cleaning out your horses hooves.
This is a hoof pick. it is meant to be used to get dirt out of your horses hooves. It is important to clean out your horses hooves daily during the brushing process.
Some hoof picks like the one shown have a brush on one end. It is not important to have this on your hoof pick but use full sometimes either for brushing the outside of your horses hooves or the inside when minimal dirt that can be dusted or brushed off.
But make sure to remember your horses frog; the skin in the bottom of the hoof that is in the shape of a triangle.
Curry Comb
Second, start curry combing your horse.
The curry comb is used for getting dried in dirt that sticks to your horses hair. the curry is meant to be brushed in a circular motion to help remove more dirt with each stroke. this brush will help you remove dried in dirt to make the dirt loose and easier to brush clean.
you can get various types of curry combs from rubber, to hard plastic, to face curry's.
The curry is safe to use on the horses body but make sure to be gentle when using the curry on your horses legs and neck.
Hard Brush
Thirdly, use the hard brush to flick of dirt that is loose from using your curry. or maybe if the curry wasn't needed, you can still use the hard brush to flick of any dirt and this will help get any dust and even maybe dander that lingers in your horse's coat.
The hard brush is safe to use on your horse's legs, but sometimes depending on the brush you may have to be careful on your horses legs.
Soft Brush
Last but not least use the soft brush. this brush will help you smooth down your horses hair and gently wipe away any surfaced dirt. this brush is used last so the soft bristles may help you maintain a nice shiny coat.
It is safe to use this brush practically everywhere along your horses body.
Mane and Tail Comb
This is a mane brush that is used for removing knots from your horses mane and tail hair.
so i have shown you all the brushes that should be in your tack box but here are some others you might find useful;
Shedding Blade
The shedding blade is used for removing hair, for example your horses hair that they are shedding from over the winter. This brush is very useful specially for the winter, the blade helps drag out hair from your horses coat.
The blade can be used all over your horses body, but be careful when shedding hair on their neck. it is not recommended to use the shedding blade on your horses legs, a rubber curry will do fine.
Sponge
A sponge is most times a must have for your tack box but its not as necessary.
The sponge can be used with warm water in the corner and around your horses eyes, as well, you can use the sponge on your horses nostrils but make sure your not putting the sponge far up into their nose, just around the outside will do.
You can also buy sponges that are a bit bigger then the one I've shown to bathe your horse.
Cloth
Its always nice to have a cloth in your tax box sometimes not a lot of people carry them are around in their tax box because they get dirty easily, but bringing one into your your barn for after your brushing to make your horse shimmer is definatly something they will appreciate !
Sweat Scraper
The sweat scraper is used when your horse has a hard workout and is soaked in sweat. You gently bring the scraper in swipes across
Thinning scissors are used for thinning out your horse's mane for when it gets thick. You can buy them for horses but, you can also buy then for people to. So really it doesn't make a difference.
The thinning scissors should most only be used for your horses mane, but can be used for the bottom of your horses tail to.
When showing its nice to have white braiding tape and elastic bands to braiding.
Braiding tape is tape you wrap around the elastic holding your braid. It males the braid look more tidy and makes it look a whole lot better in general.
Here are some examples of wipes that you can buy for your horse.
These wipes for example are specifically used for different body parts of your horse.
Wipes can be used on most parts of your horse but always be carful.
the wipes can also be used for wiping your horses coat clean just like a cloth but in some cases they can be more efficient.
